About rechargeable lights

Last updated 21 October 2026

As listed: the shell lamp has a 5,400mAh battery and 120 LEDs and gives more than 5 hours of light; the camping lantern charges from its own small solar panel or by hand crank. Run times depend on the brightness setting.
For permanent outdoor lighting, see our solar floodlights and street lights. Warranty is the manufacturer’s; ask us for terms.

FAQ

Rechargeable lights FAQs

Straight answers before you buy. Anything else? Ask the counter.

Do you install security and flood lights?

Yes. Technics Electricals & Solar installs mains LED floodlights, solar floodlights and street lights for gates, compounds, shops, schools and farms. Mains floodlights can run on a photocell so they switch on at dusk; solar lights need no cable from the house. We quote after a site visit, and lights start from KSh 900.

Mains floodlights: Vellmax 20W KSh 900 to 100W KSh 2,000. Solar floodlights and street lights: KSh 4,000 to 8,500.

How much is a solar floodlight in Kenya?

At Technics Electricals & Solar in Kiserian, solar floodlights and street lights cost KSh 4,000 to KSh 8,500: the MODI 100W street light is KSh 4,000, the Vellmax 50W floodlight KSh 4,500, the Vellmax 100W dusk-to-dawn KSh 6,000, the MODI 200W floodlight KSh 6,500 and the MODI 400W floodlight KSh 8,500.

The Carl & Gilbert 200W light with a 20W panel is also KSh 6,500, and the MODI 200W street light KSh 5,000. The watt figure in the name is a size guide, so compare the panel and battery too.

Do solar floodlights stay on all night?

Most are designed to, after a sunny day. They charge by day and switch on automatically at dusk; dusk-to-dawn models such as the Vellmax 100W are made to run through the night. Run time drops after cloudy days or if the panel sits in shade or dust, so mount it facing open sky and wipe it now and then.

Some MODI models dim during the night to stretch the battery, as listed. If you need full brightness all night, ask us about a mains floodlight on a photocell instead.

Which rechargeable light is good for blackouts?

For blackouts, Technics Electricals & Solar stocks three DP Light options: a heavy-duty rechargeable LED searchlight (KSh 800) for walking the compound, an 18W LED solar shell lamp (KSh 1,000) that lights a room and charges by solar or USB, and a 6W solar camping lantern (KSh 1,500) that can also charge a phone.

Keep them charged before the power goes. For whole-house backup, look at our YACHU solar kits.
