We carry 5 batteries from Chloride Exide's Powerlast range. All are maintenance-free, so they never need topping up with water.
The N70MF is listed for larger vehicles such as the Toyota Land Cruiser, Prado, Hilux and Fortuner, the Nissan Patrol and Navara, the Isuzu D-Max and MU-X, the Mitsubishi Pajero and L200, the Ford Ranger and Everest, the Subaru Forester and Outback, and the Mazda CX-5 and BT-50. It measures 304 × 169 × 223 mm and weighs 20.6kg. The 045MF NS is a smaller 45Ah battery. Size, terminal side and hold-down differ between models, so bring your old battery or vehicle details to the shop and we confirm the fit.
A car battery is built to give a big burst of current for a few seconds to start an engine, which is what the cold cranking amps (CCA) figure measures. A solar battery is charged and discharged every day. Use the 050MF, 075MF or 100MF for a solar or inverter system, not a car battery, and size the bank so it is not run flat every night: lead-acid batteries generally last longer when they are only partly discharged.
As a rough guide, a 12V 100Ah battery holds about 1.2kWh, and with lead-acid you plan to use only part of that each night. A few LED lights, a TV and phone charging may run from one 75Ah or 100Ah battery, while an inverter backing up a fridge needs a bigger bank, or a lithium battery. Our Powerlast solar batteries are all 12V maintenance-free lead-acid: the 050MF 50Ah costs KSh 8,000, the 075MF 75Ah KSh 10,000 and the 100MF 100Ah KSh 11,000. They suit solar home systems, inverter backup and small off-grid setups. Two identical batteries in series make a 24V bank for a 24V inverter.
No. The Powerlast batteries we stock are maintenance-free, so you never top them up with water. The N70MF uses calcium technology for low self-discharge, which helps a battery hold its charge while a vehicle stands. Keep the terminals clean and tight, and have the charging system checked if a new battery keeps going flat.
It is not a good idea. A car battery is designed for short, high-current bursts to start an engine, not for being drained and recharged every day, so it wears out quickly in solar use. Choose a solar battery such as the Powerlast 075MF or 100MF instead, or a YACHU gel or lithium battery for bigger systems.
